The wind is definitely the reason you have smoke all of those places. We were in the Inyos when the fire started and could see big billows of smoke behind Olancha peak. The next morning from our motel in Lone Pine there was no smoke to be seen, and we had heard no new reports so we thought it was contained. The next morning coming out of Darwin and around Owens Lake we could see Lone Pine socked in with smoke so thickly you could not see. The shifting winds caused the problem. I've heard reports at time smoke has been blown all the way to Mammoth Lakes from this fire.
