I was in the Army in Germany in the 1970s and sawa lots of deer, wild pig, rabbits, an amazing assortment of birds, and the occasional snake, lizard, toad. So Europe is not the barren wasteland as scare-mongers might want you to think. And since that time, many efforts have been undertaken to introduce and/or re-introduce wild game, such as African goats, etc.
In fact, there is a game preserve in Poland that has NEVER been materially impacted by man's activities. For many years it was owned by royalty, and has quite a variety of native species of all types.
