I think that would be a matter of preference, coupled with consideration for what you intend to do with it. I drive a 48 Willys (Jeep) flat fender CJ2A, modified somewhat, (Buick V6 engine, Chevy SM420 tranny with compound low,Warn Overdrive, power steering etc)to handle most any trail I choose to travel. However, it is very small, Not very comfortable, in fact it is miserable on a long highway trip on a hot day (No A/C). My friend drives a Toyota 4Runner, and it is very capable,comfortable,etc., but it is kind of pricey, and is too nice to get dirty inside. It also is a closed cab vehicle which greatly distracts from the ability to enjoy the spectacular scenery that you went all that way to see, so what do you do? Tuff decision.
