Best 4X4 for DV type areas?

Hello, I've been lurking for quite a while trying to get some ideas on where to go for a years long-planned visit to Death Valley. Problem is, I have 2wd vehicle and have decided to get a 4wd. Hope this isn't "off topic" but what type should I get. I lean towards Subaru or Toyota but have heard good things about Jeep products. I want something that can do moderate off roading (goler, Geologist's Cabin etc.) Thanks! Shorty.
