Redlands Canyon Question

Our group will be in Southern Death Valley on President's Day weekend, and we plan on a trip to Redlands Spring. The topo maps on Terraserver, dated 1974, show the road terminating just east of the spring. Since it has been 20 years since I was there last, I was wondering how the road conditions are in Redlands Canyon and Wood Canyon. Also, a friend has told me about an old mining road that leads north from Redlands Canyon road up to an elevated valley between Redlands Canyon and Big Horn Canyon, but I can't find any trace of such a road on the topo maps.
