I also watched it for the first time yesterday (on AMC, actually). Early scenes were obviously DV, later scenes were Movie Flats/Alabama Hills area of Owens Valley, but I'm pretty sure the ghost town of Yellow Sky was a set. With few exceptions, towns were stripped bare when the population moved to the next boom site.
