any non-low riding vehicle with a knowledge driver can drive the 4wheel drive road to chloride city. if you do go it is a must to go down monarch canyon. if you drive towards a water tank, you passed monarch canyon, just turn around and go down the wash. you can drive right to the edge of monarch falls and walk down to the spring, water wont be seen but you can walk on top of the weeds and get to the water fall. its very rough going- the brush is extremely thick. you cannot get down the falls unless you have ropes. but if you do its only an hour to hells gate area.
hike from the beatty cutoff road to the monarch water falls the reward is great.
there are at least 2 trails down from chloride city to keane wonder mine. one is the old winch road which is very steep and you should plan on slipping and falling on your butt at least once. it a great trip bring you out to the Big Bell Mine. then onto keane wonder mine via the canyon.
cant get lost if you take the right road.
the second road is from the [mckay's grave and cave-behind-the-cabin] from infront of the cabin you will see a road going over the crest in the saddle on the right side. thats your road.
was up there the last time in november,03
