Directions

Unfortunately, we don't know your experience level, so words of caution were issued. There are a number of folks on this board that are very much unfamiliar with road conditions and the potential dangers of exploring the back country.

If you have to ask for directions to one of the well known locations in DV, we have to assume that you may be inexperienced and/or unfamiliar with the area. Many of us, myself included, will error on the side of caution. I did not read scoldings into any of the comments.

The previous postings were simply trying to ensure you don't become an all too common statistic in either injury to self or vehicle.

The general directions are the easy part, it is the road conditions that are a bitch! Never, ever take Saline for granted, the soaks are great but the conditions for everything else can change in minutes, come prepared or don't go.

As the original poster I ask for directions and in return I get a helpful response from one poster and then scoldings, lectures and jokes from the next two.
It's hillybobs like the last two posters that keep this forum empty.

Wranglers come from the factory with street tires, except for Rubicon model. Don't take a Wrangler or other 4x4 with stock, passenger rated tires to Saline.

Wranglers and any 4x4 often embolden novices to drive beyond their skill level and get themselves in trouble. Saline (and the deserts in general) can be unforgiving and can harm or kill novices.

Social media seems to mask the danger out of Saline. Air conditioned vehicles mask the danger as well. When the engine stops, so does the AC. It's a long walk to anywhere. Conversely, winter brings delight to the valley, but dangers to the entry/exit roads into and out of the valley.

Do your homework for both yorself and your vehicle. This forum and other DV themed forum is one part of the homework. Saline is a crapshoot. You might have beginner's luck one day, be in peril the next.

I need to do more exploring out there. Not a lot of jeeping on the east side of the valley, and the road over Steel Pass is a long, arduous, rough road that I don't recommend. On the west side be carful of private property, there are a few spots in the north end of the valley around some of the mines.
