Hey Joe, Probably before your time, I had some neighbors in the 60's used to go to DV from Santa Cruz and bring back purple glass and stuff. Ever heard of the Lovitts? I was a teen and they must have been in their late 50's early 60's then. Wish I could hear some of their stories. They had a red compact pick up with a camper shell, went every year. Don't know the first names, to me they were Mr and Mrs Lovitt.......

I drove the entire road from CA190 to Stovepipe Well and out to the Scotty’s Castle road in 2000. It was still open and legal.

I'd love to see the pics of PSR!

Trail Canyon was open when I first went to DV in 1969. Unfortunately, I didn't take the opportunity to go down that route. By 1974, it had washed out very badly, and was closed.

I do remember the picnic grounds, near the original Stovepipe wells. There was a road that lead there from both Hwy 190, and from Scotty's Castle road. The road from Hwy 190 was closed first, probably in the 1980s.

I always wanted to make the run from Pete A overlook to west side road. It was closed by time i had time to do it. We use to stop by the pic nic area at the sand dunes when our kids were young. Guess they closed them to too many people. I have pictures of PSR in early 70's but cannot locate them. I keep looking but way to many slides and photos. GBA!!SVJ DV was way different when it was still a NM
