Ptk created the topic: Goler Wash
Took a quick ride up Goler Wash yesterday.
Beautiful weather and the trail itself was in excellent condition.
Made it as far as Barker without going into 4WD.

During the trip there we experienced a few unexpected items.

On previous visits through Ballarat I had the pleasure of meeting Rocky, the “Mayor of Ballarat”.
Rocky no longer holds that position and currently lives in Trona.
Apparently he’s into some form of the camping/firewood business.
Attached is a photo of the welcome sign at the entrance of his property.

Upon entering Goler there’s a large banner, posted by the Inyo County Sheriff, identifying a missing person, whose abandoned vehicle was found last September.
As of this week the missing person, Dennis Burton, has not been found.

While in Goler we encountered about a dozen other vehicles coming and going.
One group told us of an abandoned, disabled Kawasaki street bike near Mengel pass.
The bike still a had a tag on it and they recorded the info to give to the Sheriff.

I guess the morale of the story is that regardless of the current ease getting around remote DV, travelers should always be well prepared for the unexpected.
