Hey guys, just got back from the most fantastic Thanksgiving I have ever had in my life up at Cerro Gordo! I was declared the official ghost town gossipist of the town and my husband is the official breakfast cook of the American Hotel. One of the 26 Friends of Cerro Gordo best described our Thanksgiving celebration as something straight out of Norman Rockwell. It was just incredible! Good food,& good friends with a common bond to restore & keep alive the historic old ghost town on the old Fat Hill.
On Friday morning we woke up to 3- 4 inches of snow. I thought ahead and brought my rusty wire mesh Christmas stockings, a Christmas wreath with a miner's candle holder and candle in it, and we decorated the museum/ general store outside for our annual Christmas picture, complete with snow!

Some of our party headed to Death Valley yesterday and the Lippencott Road, but Roger & I stayed back and decided to keep the town open for day visitors after all. Reports from those who did the Lippencott Road was that it was a piece of cake - inspite of running across a party ahead of them that told them otherwise.

Check my website currently up for December stories: Pioneer Christmas Trails & Merry Mining Camp Days, as well as Christmas Carols the 4wd way. For those of you offended by the tours I do - just don't scroll down to the second half of my front page - and go directly to the Slices of California History and the Legends & Lore page for the Christmas stories. Hopefully, within the next week, I will have Christmas Cards & more pictures from Cerro Gordo posted on the site, as time permits. And hopefully within the next few weeks I will have an Official Cerro Gordo page for those of you interested in visiting there and knowing more about the town. I will have an update on winter visits posted, as well as reservation information, and lots of pictures.
