upcoming trip to DV

Hi,
I've been monitoring this site for several weeks now, and next weekend I arrive in DV from England. I'm looking for some reasonably up to date info.
I had planned to visit Trona Pinnacles and then cross Slate? range to Ballarat, before heading to the heart of DV. Is that route relatively easy?
The racetrack/Hunter Mountain Saline Valley would have taken me out of the park, but the problems North of SV are putting me off. I know no one knows the weather yet for 10 days away, but might I be OK to cross Hunter Mtn in a rental SUV?
If Hunter is a problem, is the route from Ubehebe North and picking up the road to Big Pine a problem? I've not seen a reference to that route at all.
I want to visit Cerro Gordo. If I go up the easier route (yellow grade?) can I traverse the ridge to the tramway and then return the way I came?

Have the fires near LA caused any problems?
Any recommendations for best camp sites?

Any assistance is gratefully received.

Also I had hoped to visit the Bristlecone Forest on White Mountain, will that road be clear this time of year?
