invalidating all land claims?

Dunno where you would prove it, but years ago I heard a tale about the original surveying of desert lands. The parties were paid by the amount of land they surveyed. Some got in a hurry and would "hopscotch" with the survey chain and stakes. The first guy would stab his into the ground and the second would run to the end of the chain and stab his into the ground. They kept this up all day to maximize their output. Consequently, errors were multiplied, and some distances are way off. If this were true, it would call for a resurvey of open land. Can't close places you can't prove are accurately measured, can you?
